Family Forest Therapy Walk Series
An immersive 6-week forest adventure for the whole family to connect through guided discovery. Rooted in principles of forest therapy and natural healing.
What is the Family Forest Therapy Walk?
Family Forest Therapy Nature Walks, a six-week outdoor program for families who want to slow down, spend quality time together, and build a deeper connection with nature. Rooted in the principles of forest therapy, these walks encourage relaxation, sensory awareness, mindfulness, and learning from the natural world around us. Each session includes a guided hike where participants will discover local plants, animals, and ecological concepts, followed by a forest therapy activity designed to foster reflection, curiosity, and connection.
Families will have the opportunity to unplug from daily distractions, reduce stress, and develop a greater appreciation for the environment while creating meaningful memories together. Through six themed sessions, participants will build a connection to the world around us and discover why spending intentional time in nature is so important to our well-being and our relationships.
Who is this for?
This experience is for families who are craving more meaningful time together outdoors.
It is especially supportive for families who:
Want to slow down and create space away from screens, schedules, and daily busyness
Are looking for a gentle outdoor activity that supports connection and emotional well-being
Have children who love nature, exploring, imagination, or sensory play
Want to introduce mindfulness in a grounded, accessible way
Are navigating stress, transitions, big emotions, or simply need a reset together
Value nature, presence, and quality time as part of their family rhythm
No previous experience with mindfulness, meditation, or forest therapy is needed. This walk is designed to be welcoming, gentle, and accessible for both adults and children.
Why does this matter?
Families today are often moving quickly. Between work, school, activities, screens, and full schedules, it can be hard to find moments where everyone truly lands together.
Nature offers a different rhythm.
When we step into the forest, our bodies begin to soften. Our senses wake up. Our nervous systems have an opportunity to settle. Children often become more curious and grounded, and adults are given permission to slow down too.
A Family Forest Therapy Walk creates space for families to reconnect without needing to force conversation or structure every moment. The natural world becomes the guide. A bird call, a fallen leaf, the texture of bark, or the quiet between the trees can become an opening for presence, wonder, and connection.
This experience matters because families need places where they can simply be together.
What You’ll be Guided through:
❋ Finding our Place in Nature: Symbolic TreesThis session utilizes the power of trees and how our bodies and minds become fully relaxed, free from anxiety, stress, and the busyness of our modern world, to experience inner peace.
❋ Earth's Energy, as Art and Artist
This session focuses on creation. Creating art with our hands and intuitive nature allows our systems to energize and recharge, while tuning into the creating nature of our being.
❋ Forest Sensory EngagementThis session will help you become more aware of how you feel when you touch, feel, and see certain things. This will train you to recognize what makes you feel more at peace.
❋ Tea Ceremony & Sit Spot Teachings
This session focuses on the teachings of the sit spot and how powerful the practice of pausing can be deeply healing, nurturing our consciousness and strengthens our connection to the natural world.
❋ Trust Life & Follow Your Intuition
This session teaches you about the language of nature. Like trees and nature we can be flexible yet rooted, joyful yet grounded, soft like mist, and nourishing like rain.
❋ Forest Mind, Body, and Soul Connection
This session brings a remembering that we are a part of nature and nature is a part of us, promoting balance in our life.
Studies show that children who spend more time in nature have better brain development than those constantly exposed to screens. Children who spent more time in nature also were found to be more open psychologically, better adapted to adult life, and have a greater capacity for empathy.
Meet Your Guide
Hello :) I’m Erika Clarkson, forest therapy practitioner and all around nature lover.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology and Conservation, as well as a diploma in Ecosystem Management. I find my passion truly comes alive when I can share my knowledge with others and help spark excitement and curiosity about nature. Inspired by the profound benefits of natural connection, I started my own business, Sunshine Forest Therapy, with the goal of helping people connect meaningful with nature.
At home, I share my life with my partner, our dog, cat, and two geckos. I love all types of animals and plants and I still feel like a little kid whenever I explore a new environment. When indoors, I enjoy crochet, crafting, and spending time with my family and pets.

ClosingHow It Works-
Step away from busy schedules, screens, and everyday distractions and spend intentional time connecting as a family in nature.
The Family Forest Therapy Walk Series is a six-week guided nature experience in Saskatoon designed to help families slow down, explore, play, and connect more deeply with each other and the natural world.
Each week, families will be guided through gentle forest therapy-inspired activities that encourage curiosity, mindfulness, sensory awareness, creativity, and connection. Rather than hiking toward a destination, we move slowly and intentionally, allowing children and adults alike to notice what is happening around them and experience nature in their own way.
Along the way, we may listen for birds, notice changing colours and textures, explore with our senses, spend quiet moments beneath the trees, participate in playful nature invitations, practice simple breathing or mindfulness exercises, and share what we discover together.
As the weeks unfold, families will also have the opportunity to notice how the natural environment changes through the season, creating a deeper sense of relationship with the places we visit.

Easy and family-friendly
This series is designed to be accessible for a wide range of families and does not require previous hiking, outdoor, or mindfulness experience.
Walks will move at a slow, relaxed pace with frequent pauses for nature exploration, sensory activities, mindfulness, and connection. The focus is not on distance or reaching a destination, but on experiencing the natural environment together.
Families should be comfortable walking on natural terrain, which may include grass, dirt trails, small hills, roots, mud, or uneven ground depending on the location and weather.
Because each child is different, caregivers are encouraged to choose whether the experience is a good fit based on their child’s comfort spending time outdoors and walking short distances.
-
What age is this series best suited for?
The Family Forest Therapy Walk Series is designed for families with children who are comfortable spending time outdoors and participating in gentle guided activities. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to choose based on their child’s interests, attention span, and comfort in nature rather than age alone.
Do we need any previous outdoor experience?
Not at all. No hiking, mindfulness, or forest therapy experience is required. The walks are beginner-friendly and move at a relaxed pace with plenty of opportunities to stop, explore, and rest.
How physically demanding are the walks?
The walks are considered easy and family-friendly. We will travel short distances on natural trails and spend much of our time slowing down, exploring, and participating in nature-based invitations rather than continuously hiking.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The series is designed to help families experience nature throughout the changing season, so walks may take place in light rain, cooler temperatures, or other typical Saskatchewan weather. Families should come dressed for the conditions.
If weather or trail conditions become unsafe, such as during severe storms, high winds, extreme temperatures, or other hazardous conditions, the session may be rescheduled or adjusted.
Do both parents need to attend?
No. One parent or caregiver may attend with their child or children, or both caregivers are welcome to participate if your family would like to experience the series together.
Can siblings attend?
Yes. This is a family-based experience, and siblings from the same household are welcome to participate together within your family registration.
What does a family registration include?
One registration covers your participating immediate family and includes all six guided sessions, nature and mindfulness activities, family connection practices, and any take-home invitations provided throughout the series.
Do we have to attend all six weeks?
The greatest benefit comes from participating in the full six-week journey, as each experience builds upon the themes of connection, awareness, and relationship with nature.
We understand that family life happens, though, and missing one session does not mean you cannot continue with the series.
Is this the same as hiking?
Not quite. While we will walk through natural spaces, forest therapy is less about how far we travel and more about how deeply we experience where we are.
We intentionally slow down, engage the senses, notice the natural environment, explore, play, reflect, and create space for families to simply be together.
What if my child doesn’t want to participate in an activity?
That’s okay. The invitations throughout the series are just that: invitations.
Children will be encouraged to explore nature in ways that feel comfortable and interesting to them. There is no pressure to participate perfectly or experience nature in a particular way.
Can we bring a stroller?
Some locations may include uneven or natural terrain that is not suitable for all strollers. If you are bringing a younger child, a hiking carrier may be more practical depending on the location.
Specific accessibility information will be provided for each meeting location.
Can we bring our dog?
To help create a calm and inclusive environment for all families, pets are best left at home unless otherwise specified for a particular session.
What should we bring?
Dress for the weather and bring comfortable footwear, water, sunscreen or bug spray when needed, and a small snack for children if desired. A lightweight blanket or sit pad can also be helpful for moments when we pause and spend time on the ground.
Most importantly, bring your curiosity and willingness to slow down and experience nature together.
