Learn to Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP)

Stand-up Paddleboard Lessons so that you can get out on the water to feel confident and safe!

Learn to SUP Level 1

In these lessons, we teach you:

  • Safety Skills for getting out on the water which includes the gear you need, weather and paddling conditions and falling off and remounting your board safely

  • Paddling Skills, which include:

    • Proper sizing and holding a paddle

    • Mounting your board

    • Paddling while sitting, kneeling and standing

    • Forward stroke, braking stroke and sweep stroke

  • SUP Knowledge

Learn to SUP Level 2

In these lessons, we teach you:

  • Safety skills for launching into waves, towing, and a review of the equipment requirements

  • Paddling Skills, which include:

    • Efficient Forward Stroke

    • Foot Positions

    • Bracing

    • Pivot Turn

    • Draw Strokes

    • Edging

  • Trip Planning and Decision Making/Risk Management

How It Works
  • At Back2Nature Wellness & Adventures we teach you the safety and skills you’ll need to efficiently stand-up paddleboard on your next adventure!

    Your certified Paddle Canada Instructor will teach you efficient and safe ways to get on your board and out paddling!

    If you’re renting a board:

    • Red Paddle Co. Paddleboard

    • PFD/Life Jacket

    • Dry bag

    • Submersible footwear

    • Bathing suit, wet suit or dry suit (suitable clothing to wear while paddling that may get wet)

    • Extra change of clothes

    • Transportation to the launch location

    • If you are bringing your own paddleboard, please bring with you:

      • Paddleboard, paddle, leash, fins

      • PFD/lifejacket and whistle

  • The Learn to SUP Level 1 lesson is suitable for all skill levels, including those that have never been on a SUP before. We keep our class sizes small (max 6 people) so that our instructor can work 1:1 to ensure everyone is supported where they are at, and everyone leaves with new skills and knowledge to allow them to feel safe and confident on the water!

    The Learn to SUP Level 2 lesson is for those who have taken our Level 1 lesson or an equivalent and would like to learn advanced skills.

  • Our team at Back2Nature will be in touch with you via text message if the weather conditions (i.e. wind, thunderstorm) are unsafe to paddle and we will arrange to reschedule the lesson.

  • What should I wear?

    You can wear a swim suit underneath a base layer (we recommend a merino wool short sleeved or long sleeved top). As for bottoms, we recommend wearing a quick dry material of shorts, capris or pants and bringing with you a pair of rain pants and jacket. As for your feet, we recommend submersible footwear that you can get wet. Please bring with you an extra change of clothes and footwear.

    Do you supply life jackets?

    Yes, if you chose to rent a board from us, we have various sizes of PFDs/life jackets that we provide, along with a whistle attached!
